This is awesome
Always a sucker for slow motion film, somehow it makes even the most mundane things extraordinary. In this case however its something quite spectacular - a lighting storm slowed down, and unusually there is about 3 minutes of footage. Enjoy.

Bog Standard Art
This via The Design Inspiration some really innovative art created with old toilet role tubes - never ceases to amaze me how people can apply creativity to the strangest most mundane objects to such great effect.

This looks like fun
Taking the functional and making it fun is pretty simple. Really nice ideas here from VW showing how you can change ingrained behavior for the better. Two simple things - getting people to take the stairs rather than the escalator,
and put litter in a bin
and recycle
It is called Fun Theory and is a beautiful little bit of work.
Props to DDB Stockholm

Musical Mapping Mayhem

I just love this for its sheer lunacy. Somewhere a guy into maps has created a Google maps type mash up whereby he has turned the 88 counties in Ohio in to a map where each county corresponds to a key on a piano so you can play the county and make tunes.

Called Ohio is a piano it is brilliant and mad.
Infuriating yet insightful
Every so often someone in the office sends something round just for fun, and you open it and wish you hadn't. This site is exactly one of those types of sites. They are infuriating because they are addictive and yet totally pointless.

However, the people that develop sites like this demonstrate that they really understand how interaction works. That users are open to exploring, that intrigue is a powerful tool. That you can trust your users and give them more credit than we tend to. That it is human nature to explore and curiosity is a powerful motivation.
Interaction is the mainstay of the interface and its potential for us to use is limitless. At the end of the day something like this whilst stupid is also very insightful. sometimes the simplest things are - but brasnds have to fight their instincts to over complicate or lead the client too much.

An almighty noise on Tottneham Court Road

Half the office have been hanging out the 4th floor windows looking down on to Tottenham Court Road to see what the fuss was about. At about 3pm very load music began to literally shake the office and came blaring through the windows.
.jpg)
I went down to investigate and was greeted by the following site - the britbus tour. Which appears to be a battle bus with various bands touring the country competintg to be signed.
.jpg)
Anyway, despite the name I thought it was a promotion for Guitar Hero as they seem to have dominated the sponsorship and the BritBus logo was a bit hard to read.
Whatever it was it was good fun.

Terminator Salvation on Twitter

Farai at work just sent round this little beauty from Terminator Salvation who have have done a clever thing using Twitter.

It's called Resistance 2018.

It's works as follows:
1. The Resistance (good guys) are intercepting Skynet (baddies)
communications, but they can only get garbled messages.
2. You join the Resistance (sign up on Blog and follow them on Twitter)
3. They send you a garbled message (Tweet) that they intercepted.
4. You must ungarble the message and reply (Twitter or blog) within 2 hours.
(Success => Points => Higher chances of promotion in the Resistance Army)
5. Repeat and Go to Step 3.
The website for the game could do better to support the game, a blog isn't the right way to go.
Apart from that it shows some good thinking around real world gaming.

80's Computer Nostalgia
I just complained because the new game we have just developed for Drench took about 5 seconds to load on the website. Then Deep reminded me of how long we used to wait for our kicks back in the 80's. I go nostalgic for those old sounds of computer games loading on tape machines and found this. If oyu are old like me you will remember it.
At the time I hated the sound but hearing it again was quite nice - for about 5 seconds anyway. Got to love the guy doing his impression of a dial up modem.

Great Expectations - Rackspace
Richard got this Fedex'd over to our building yesterday, and we just loved it
Inside we found this, the writing says ' If fatal attraction disturbed you get someone else to open this for you'

Then this - a bunny, a recipe for Rabbit Stew and a direct mail piece explaining Rackspace's obsession with customer service - all in rather splendid.

and this

I guess the only problem is we've been waiting for Barry at Rackspace to get us the quote he promised would be with us on Thursday (yesterday) and it's still not here.
When you set up a great expectation and promise and tell your existing customers how good you are you best be sure to deliver on it. So come on Barry give us a ring and send over the quote or we will come round and cook you in the stew ;-)

Airwaves Luchador Advergame
This is a great advergame for Airwaves with a Nacho Libre character called Chlorophllo - but more than that it is great fun to watch, feels like a Tarantino-esque film in parts. I really like the navigation (using a whole side of the keyboard) nice and easy, and the dubbing just makes me chuckle. Hats off to Tribal DDB Paris - best work I've seen from them.

Only thing that I can't work out is why the subtitles are in English?
