Alice in Wonderland on the iPad

This is a nice little video showing how some basic interaction on the ipad as an e-reader can enhance or augment the reading experience.

Bringing an opinion to life, and demonstrating your view.

I was very impressed with both the opinion and the design of these two articles

The first on the fold in screen design.

The second on spelling - although I am not one to talk on that subject.

Brilliant application of iphone in physical world

Courtesey of pixelsumo blog this looks like a brilliant and simple application. I wish I had one of these as a child the magic of stories and interacting with the books characters, plots and situations would have been greatly enhanced. Although Steve Jackson went a little way with the turn to page 5 to fight the dragon, or 76 to run away type action adventure book.

Toyota Prius iphone app in Time Square

Spotted this on the digital buzz blog. Nice use of blue tooth, digital outdoor and a phone app.

Also fits in nicely with the strap line for the Prius - Moving forward - which works on a number of levels and gives them permission to do activity that is pushing technology on.

Infuriating yet insightful

Every so often someone in the office sends something round just for fun, and you open it and wish you hadn't. This site is exactly one of those types of sites. They are infuriating because they are addictive and yet totally pointless.

However, the people that develop sites like this demonstrate that they really understand how interaction works. That users are open to exploring, that intrigue is a powerful tool. That you can trust your users and give them more credit than we tend to. That it is human nature to explore and curiosity is a powerful motivation.

Interaction is the mainstay of the interface and its potential for us to use is limitless. At the end of the day something like this whilst stupid is also very insightful. sometimes the simplest things are - but brasnds have to fight their instincts to over complicate or lead the client too much.

Glasses Direct online advertisng

Update:
After posting this I got a comment from someone at glasses direct:
Hi - interesting post and thank you for your comments. If any of your readers would like to try us, then you may use the following discount code which I have set up for 10 x uses at 10% off. Simply enter at checkout: 'morgonzola'. Jamie Murray Wells (founder)

Nice one Jamie.

I've seen a lot of Glasses Direct banner advertising spring up over the last few weeks and to be fair although the ads aren't the prettiest in the world they have embraced the banner as a DR channel and really used some innovative and useful techniques. Here are a few of their ads.

1. Nice way to show a lot of product

2. Showing range in affiliate banners:

3. More range techniques:

4. Nice interaction linked back to product benefit

Overall very impressive use of the medium.

Another awesome poster

Using technology - courtesy of Osocio Amnesty International rigged up a camera in a bus stop, the camera recognizes when someone is looking at it and changes the image. Very effective, very cool.

Ikea wins the award for consistentcy

Lots of brands do brilliant work online these days but I have to take my hat off to Ikea for consistency. It seems someone at Ikea or their agency just 'get it' and encourage great work.

The latest piece of work uses the time lapse camera technique they have been building on for a while and it basically follows two diner parties but the films are played in reverse. Simple yet captivating.

Here is an incomplete list of the great work I have seen, some of it is just an evolution of an idea over time but there are a few things they all have in common:

1. They are simple ideas
2. They are all beautifully executed
3. They all link back directly and seamlessley to the product - but in a very natural way

Frank Cocaine Basement

An interesting addition to the talk to Frank site - Frank The Cocaine Basement. An interactive experience demonstrating the dangers of Cocaine use. Some interesting use of video, games, experience etc.
